Descendants of Simeon Hamlin
     John P. Hamlin was born on 31 Aug 1844 in Bennington County, Vermont.4,5,6,2,7 He moved to in Cherry Grove, Fillmore County, Minnesota, in Jun 1857 with his parents.1,6 He and Abigail Stratton lived on his parents' farm until in 1864, at which point he purchased his own farm in section 10 (of York Twp?) in Fillmore County, Minnesota. His aging mother Abigail Stratton moved in with him and remained with him until her death in 1874.2 He began military service in Aug 1864 as a private in Company J, 3rd Minnesota Infantry.8,6,2,7 He ended military service in Aug 1865 with dyspepsia.9 In 1867 he sold his original farm and recolated to section three in the same township. In 1969 he moved to a new farm in section 4 which had "choice land and good buildings."2 He married, at age 28, Mary L. Smith on 22 Sep 1872 .6,2 He married second Zella L. Smith on 17 Jun 1880.4,6,2 He died on 26 Apr 1897 in Cherry Grove, Fillmore County, Minnesota, at age 52.6,7 He was buried in Spring Valley Cemetery, Spring Valley, Fillmore County, Minnesota.7
